Musing Mondays: July 25

This week’s musing asks…

Do you need to have your owned books out where you can see them, or are you okay with them being stored away?

I absolutely loved to see my books but tbere are times where its just not possible. Space is a very big issues with me. I think between the bookish people currently living in the house I don't know which one has more books or who takes up more space. I have books on my small bookshelf filled to the brim, on my work desk, under my bed, in the garage, in the small office area, even on my bed!

As you can see I really am running out of room for books. I do plan in the future when I move to have my own cozy room only for reading, my books, the internet, and some other crafts. But till then I am just going to have to manage.

I put books all around my house in the order that I read. Books I am currently reading are on my bed or near it, Books that are my favorite are on my bookshelf. College books are on my personal desk. All other books are everywhere else.

Q: Name 3 Authors that you would love to sit down  and spend an hour or a meal  with just talking about either their books get advice on writing from?    

That really a hard choice to pick only three! I have so many authors I really want to talk about, but I according to the questions ( ant to be fair) I will have to pick only 3. I am listing the authors of my current favorite series as authors I really want to meet.

First up is......

1. Julie Kagawa

I absolutely adored her Iron Fey Series and I loved all her books. Especially Meghan Chase, Puck and Ash. I would love to ask her How did you create this world? What inspired you? What could you give as advice as a writer?

2. J.K. Rowling

      

J.K. Rowling has and forever be one of my favorite authors of all time. Her books grew up with me and in turn actually started my book obsession. I hate to think where I would be now if it weren't for J.K. Rowling. To think that reading for me used to be really a terrible battle for me makes my cry sometimes. I am really grateful to her and Harry Potter for encouraging and opening up  the magical world of books to me. My question would be: Why is Harry Potter....you know Harry Potter?

3. Maggie Steifvater 

I liked the The Wolves of Mercy Falls series. I have read Shiver and reviewed it here. I still need to review Linger and read Forever. But so far I love her books. She is partly the reason why I am so into wolves right now. I would ask her: Where did you get the folklore for the wolves? Where did your fascination with wolves start?

Secret Society Girl Book Review

Living the college life, partying, finals, and looking for jobs. That's the the true of essence of college is it not? What happens when you get out of college? Isnt life just the same? Well for  Amy who is of the elite students at the Eli University & the editor-in-chief of Eli literary magazine, there is something more than just sororities planned on her mind. She has the perfect group to join and the perfect internship over the summer and shes practically a shoo in for the sorority she wants as well. There is only one problem a secret society wants her to join them. There is no problem at all right? I guess if it wasnt for the fact its an All BOYS ( Men I should really say hot sexy men) society! What a girl going to do with all this testosterone running rampant?

It took me awhile to get used to the book. Majority of the book (about 75%) was about the intiation process and personally got my tired after awhile( I swear I fell asleep!) I was really debating if this book was my cup of tea to read at first but I decided to dig on and I was awarded with a gem of a story. I learned to like Amy more and outright personality and how she never claims she is perfect unlike the stereotyping of sorority girls out there. She admits he weaknesses and her fears as well , as her imperfections.

I liked the modern writing of this story. It was humorous, it was in fact real. This book did not try to “fairytale” anything about life * despite being recruited by all men fictional secret society) and how Amy lived. She kept to the truth and I liked how she never tried lying to herself and was logical the whole entire time.



Even though it takes awhile for you to get into the story, I think overall Secret Society Girl is an ok read and I rate " Secret Society Girl" 3 stars out of 5.





Favorite Character in the Book

I think of all my favorite character in the book would have to be the rich and spoiled princess Clarissa. Despite having all the fortune she could ever want and fame.Clarissa lives the seemingly perfect life .She has problems and she is not afraid to admit them. She is truthful even though you know sometimes the truth hurts. I love her fashion sense and how she just radiates confidence with everyone. Clarissa also has other sides to her, such as being kind, courageous,  and standing up for what she truly believes in. I think she is the true heroine in this story.

Musing Mondays: July 18

This week’s musing asks…

What is the last book you struggled to read through to the end, even though you weren’t really enjoying it? What made you keep reading?

The last book I read that I struggled with would have to be Shiver by Maggie Steifvater. Originally I had heard of great reviews on the series and heard that Forever was coming out July 12th and wanted to read it in time for its release. By the reviews of other fellow bloggers on Amazon and Goodreads, Shiver was an amazing book.

I started to read Shiver and I immediately didn't like it. I was never a reader that liked to switch from pov ( point of view) in a story because for me personally, it made the story seem to  cause slight dizziness ,switching from person to person. I personally preferred you stick with one heroine in a story ,  see it from her point of view all the way through , and see it from her eyes. Another thing that also got to me at first was how short the chapters were. I know I know that is how some chapters from book are but it was weird for me at first. Another thing that really got to my was the sappy romance at the time. I dont know if I was being pessimistic, but  the sappy kissing really got to my head and *shudders* made me sick to my stomach.  I felt at first the story had no real substance to it and was just another one of those "teen romance" stories. 

I still trudged on. Everyone said it was amazing and I was waiting for the "greatness" to come. It didn't kick in till the middle of story though.  It took me a whole month to finish the book. That is when I realized all my  dislikes actually became "likes" in the aspect that everything tied in with the story. It was like a light-bulb went off in my head. All the so called "sappy romance" went away and the true story came alive for me . 

Now I can't stop raving about Shiver, Linger, and Forever. My current favorite mythical beings would have to be wolves right now. I guess why I found it difficult to read was because it was a new experience for me and I was not used to it. I am personally glad I finished the book or I would have never knew such a great series or such a great author. 

Some books you can read and some you can't. Its all up to you. Maybe you will find trash or you might just find a rare gem that you will carry in your innermost thoughts for the rest of your life.
